A native of Ohio, Thomas Corwin (1794, in Bourbon County, Kentucky - 1865) worked as a prosecuting attorney before being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. He went on to serve in the US House of Representatives and the Senate.

An extremely popular politician, Corwin was elected governor of Ohio and later served as secretary of the Treasury (under President Millard Fillmore).

Corwin also served as President Abraham Lincoln’s minister to Mexico.
