Peter Paul Halajian
Manufacturer of Mounds Candy Bar, now proudly part of The Hershey Company
Bio
After forming the Peter Paul Manufacturing Company of Connecticut in 1919, Peter Paul Halajian produced some of America’s most beloved confectioneries. While Halajian’s first product, the Konabar – a blended coconut, fruit, and nut concoction covered with chocolate – was a great success, it was the introduction of the Mounds bar in 1922 that made the company a heavyweight in the American candy industry. In 1946, almost 20 years after Halajian’s death, the Peter Paul Manufacturing Company did it again with the launch of Almond Joy. Halajian’s company was purchased by Cadbury Schweppes in 1978, then acquired by Hershey in 1988.
