Paul Robert Ignatius

Bio
Born in 1920 in Glendale, California, Paul Ignatius has had an illustrious career as secretary of the Navy as well as an influential figure in defense consulting and publishing. Ignatius was educated at USC and Harvard and served in the Navy during World War II. He served as secretary of the Navy between 1967 and 1969 and was the assistant secretary of Defense (Installations and Logistics) under the Johnson administration. Ignatius has also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Logistics Management Institute; chairman, president, and CEO of the Air Transport Association; and president of The Washington Post. He is a trustee of the George C. Marshall Foundation. In 2013, the Navy announced that an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer will be named after Ignatius. During a Washington, DC, ceremony celebrating the announcement, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said, “The USS Paul Ignatius will be in our fleet for three to four decades. It will sail virtually every ocean of the world. It will be a reminder of the experience and wisdom of Paul Ignatius.” He is currently the oldest-living U.S. government official.
