Bio


The son of renowned author Michael Arlen (Dikran Kouyoumdjian), Michael J. Arlen was born in 1930 in England. He moved to America with his family in 1946.


After studying at Harvard University, Arlen worked as a reporter for Life, from 1952 to 1956. He later became a television critic for The New Yorker.


Arlen is the author of Living Room War, a book on the portrayal of the Vietnam War by the mass media; An American Verdict; Thirty Seconds; Exiles; and the critically acclaimed Passage to Ararat. The latter two works are autobiographical narratives of Arlen’s Armenian ancestry.


Passage to Ararat won the National Book Award in the Contemporary Affairs category.
