Haiganush Bedrosian is the first female judge to serve in Rhode Island’s Family Court and the first woman to become the chief judge of the court.


Bedrosian received her BA from Brown University and her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. After working in private practice and as a prosecutor, she was appointed to Rhode Island’s Family Court. In 2010, she became the court’s chief judge.


Bedrosian was instrumental in creating statewide standards for Guardian ad litem in Family Court cases. She also served as a law clerk to late Supreme Court Justice Thomas Paolino.


Bedrosian founded the Rhode Island Trial Judges Association and served as its president for several years.
