Garo Armen (born 1953 in Turkey) is recognized as a pioneering developer of cancer treatments and philanthropist. He is chairman and CEO of Antigenics Inc., a biotechnology company that discovered the personalized cancer vaccine Oncophage (currently in clinical development for treating brain cancer).
Armen, who holds a PhD in physical chemistry from City University of
New York, is credited with restructuring the biopharmaceutical company Élan Corporation.
Armen is also the founder and chairman of the Children of Armenia Fund, recognized by the United States Agency for International Development and the World Bank as an exemplary organization in terms of fostering sustainable development and reducing poverty.
Armen is the recipient of the Humanitarian Award of the Sabin Vaccine
Institute. His other accolades include the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
