The Art That Flows on My Canvas is An Expression of What is in My Mind, My Heart and My Soul

Bio

Acclaimed American Armenian artist Shahen Zarookian blends the styles of modernist Europe with abstract expressionism. Shahen takes a Euro-centric approach to styles primarily rooted in his American experience. His painted works— “Abstract Expressionism”—are born of his intercontinental sensibility and reflective of his travels and life experiences.

After studying fine arts in the early 1970s, Shahen got his start as a graphic designer, making graphics for the Seventh Asian Games ’74. During this time, he also exhibited his art throughout Europe. In the early 1980s, he moved to America, settling in Boston and working as a creative director and graphic designer for Bose.

In the last two decades, Shahen has largely focused on his painting, with a sharp eye for color and composition honed over years as a designer. Working with bright and dramatic palettes, he infuses his work with a rhythmic arrangement of strong lines and lush textures, focusing on his vision of the human form, everyday life, and the natural world. His unique visual expression has proved to be the key ingredient in a long and successful career in the worlds of graphic design and fine art.
